10 Successful IITians that are at The Helm of Global Corporations

Indian CEOs have been pioneering the way for how global corporations are working. Earlier, Indians had a hard time reaching the top of the ladder, but over the years, they have broken this glass ceiling and today, numerous companies are headed by CEOs of Indian origin. IITs are much sought-after institutes by students to pursue their higher education. There are numerous leaders with a background from IIT, who are leading global corporations and are successful in their roles. 

In this article, we list out 10 successful IITians who are at the helm of global corporations.

  1. Sundar Pichai

With roots in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Sundar Pichai is the CEO of Google. He completed his undergraduate degree from IIT Kharagpur, post which, he pursued his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Google as the Head of Product Management and was involved in developing Google Chrome.

 

  1. Nikesh Arora

Once Google’s high-profile employee, Nikesh Arora quit Google to take up his role as Vice Chairman of SoftBank Corp and CEO of SoftBank Internet and Media. Reputed for his financial and strategic skills, in his current role, he is overseeing the internet, telecommunications, and media. He is an alumnus for IIT-BHU, with an MBA from Northeastern University and a Masters in Finance from Boston College.  

 

  1. Dinesh Paliwal

The CEO and Chairman of Harman International, Mr. Paliwal played an instrumental role in the transformation of Harman into a customer-centric organization. He built a strong leadership team to expand the company’s business. He received his B.E. from IIT Roorkee and his MBA from Miami University. 

 

  1. Arvind Krishna

The latest addition to the Indian origin CEOs of multinational companies – Mr. Arvind Krishna is the head of IBM’s cloud and cognitive software unit. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and completed his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 

 

  1. Deepinder Goyal

India’s largest restaurant aggregator, Zomato is headed by Mr. Deepinder Goyal, an alumnus of IIT Delhi. He started out as a Management Consultant at Bain & Company before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey with Zomato. The company is soon to go public with its shares. 

 

  1. Manu Agarwal

With a bachelor’s degree from IIT Kanpur, Manu Agarwal is the founder and CEO of Naaptol Online Shopping, a dominant home shopping business. He is a serial entrepreneur with businesses such as ANMSoft Technologies to his name. 

 

  1. Ashok Soota

With a Bachelor’s degree from IIT Roorkee and an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management, Mr. Soota is currently the co-founder of Happiest Minds Technologies. He has twice been recognized as the ‘IT Man of the Year’ and ‘Electronics Man of the Year’. 

 

  1. Aneesh Reddy

Mr. Aneesh Reddy holds a bachelor’s degree from IIT Kharagpur and founded Capillary Technologies after working with ITC Ltd. During his stint at Capillary, Mr. Reddy has been recognized as ‘Forty under 40’ leader by Fortune Magazine and The Economic Times. He is also IIT Kharagpur’s youngest ever distinguished alumnus awardee. 

 

  1. Bhavish Aggarwal

One of the 100 Most Influential People of 2018 by Time magazine, Bhavish Aggarwal is an alumnus of IIT Bombay. He worked at Microsoft Research for 2 years, after which he started his business, OlaCabs, along with his co-founder, Ankit Bhati. That year, these co-founders were the youngest in India’s list of richest. 

 

  1. Vinod Khosla

An Indian-American billionaire, Vinod Khosla is the co-founder of Sun Microsystems. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from IIT Bombay, followed by a Master’s and an MBA from Stanford. He started his career at Daisy Systems, following which he opened his own venture – Sun Microsystems, along with his classmates. The business tycoon is also a venture capitalist having several early-stage successful investments to his name. 

IITs are well-known for producing talented and brilliant minds, excelling in their careers. Along with helming multi-national companies, IITians are also ruling in other fields of work.
