The covid-19 pandemic has posed different challenges in front of students and has brought a huge change in the learning process.  Not only is the pandemic responsible for encouraging studying from home, but with the advent of technology, students prefer to study online because of the different benefits and advantages attached to it.  When it comes to preparing for NEET, the common trend is to study at a coaching institute, but it isn’t necessary to do so. There are many students who prepare from home due to varied reasons including budgetary constraints and reachability.  There are no set parameters or requirements when it comes to preparing for entrance exams like NEET, it is important to burst the bubble that only coaching institutes will ensure success.   Students can opt for the way that suits them the best and enable them in performing with flying colours.  NEET is an entrance exam that is attempted by 16 lakh students all over India and aspirants undertake different methods to prepare for the same, though all of them aspire to outshine others and bag an excellent rank. Here are some tips and suggestions that can help students in preparing for NEET from home-

1. Understanding and knowing the syllabus- to start off the preparation on a good note one should have a deep understanding and knowledge about the syllabus of NEET.  This information is available to the students easily and is the starting point of preparation.  Marking the topics and chapters that students find easier as compared to the other ones should be prepared in the initial stages, so that much attention and time can be devoted to the tough topics and chapters.  Referring to books prescribed by NCERT is the safest option. Important topics should be given an upper hand while preparing but going through the complete syllabus is also essential.  No stones should be left unturned by the students when it comes to preparing NEET.

2. Following a timetable- one major reason behind opting for a coaching institute to prepare is because a proper schedule/timetable is strictly followed at these institutes.  Students who prepare from home need to simply prepare a timetable that suits them and follow it.  We know that it’s easier said than done, following the timetable helps students in staying organized and achieving the set targets on time.  Discipline is a trait that must be present in students when they aim to prepare all by themselves because there is no external disciplinarian present to monitor and guide them.  This timetable should surely have a space for healthy breaks because they increase the efficiency as well as the concentration power of the student.

3. Identifying weak areas- putting a check on oneself is very important when preparing from home because you are your own teacher and mentor.  Studying from home doesn’t imply that one cannot ask for external help, it simply means that a student won’t be studying with the help of a traditional coaching institute.  One can also seek help from teachers or mentors. Identifying the weak areas is important because these require rigorous practice and dedicating time towards them should be the topmost priority.  The strength areas or easier topics can be left for the end because they won’t consume much time.  It is suggested to students preparing from home that they form a study plan and focus on improving in these areas.

4. Mock tests- as the name suggests, mock tests are a mock-up of the actual exam, they generally have important and expected questions.  Students are suggested to practice as many as possible mock tests.  There are paid mock tests available online, that can be easily accessed by students.  They are one of the most important elements of preparation and should be attempted seriously by students because these results act as a self-checking mechanism. Even without a traditional coaching institute, one can attempt these with the help of analysis. Mock tests prepare students mentally as well as physically to attempt the final exam.

5. Referring to the best set of books- there is a large pool of books that is available to students for preparing.  These books are easily available in bookstores and thanks to technology, can also be accessed online.  Students can study and draw references from these books to prepare on their own.  To know which books will facilitate the process you can read (add a hyperlink for Best books to prepare for NEET).

Preparing from home is not a cake-walk, but is also something that is achievable if the student is sincere and has a preparation strategy in place.  Nothing is impossible and similarly preparing from home is also possible if the above-mentioned tips are kept in mind by the student.
