Health care sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in India. This sector is not only important from a socialistic point of view, but also from an economic point of view. Health care sector comprises of medical services, hospitals, medical equipment’s, “research and development, medical trials, education, medical tourism, health insurance, medical consultancy, pharmacies etc. The growth of this sector has led to increase in demand as well as generation of new jobs in the health care sector. 

Different careers in health sector that can be taken into consideration include,

  1. Physicians- they detect, analyse and understand the patients’ medical history and treat them accordingly. They require the most demanding education qualification. 

  2. Surgeon- they perform surgeries on patients after proper diagnosis. They perform a diagnosis and then treat the illness. 

  3. Surgical Technologists- they are responsible for creating and maintaining of a sterilized and organised environment throughout the performance of a surgical operation. They work closely with surgeons and nurses. 

  4. Perioperative nurse- they are also known as the operating room nurses and are responsible for taking care of the patient during the whole process of surgery and after that. 

  5. Podiatrists- they deal with the patients having foot, ankle and leg related illness. 

  6. Pathologist- a specialist who studies the body fluids and then gives an assessment about the condition of the patient. 

  7. Pathologist’s assistant- they work with a pathologist and assist in examining, processing and dissecting of tissues, they also work in forensic labs and autopsies in hospitals.

  14. Medical Scientists- they conduct medical trials, testing and experiments which can result in improvement of medical services as well as the human health. 

  15. Radiation Therapists- they work closely with the patients who undergo radiation therapy, they explain and monitor the therapy and take responsibility for the safety of patients. 

  16. Genetic Counsellors- they deeply understand the family details and history of the patients to find roots of the problem perform diagnosis and prescribes them with the required medication/treatments. 

  17. Molecular Genetics Technologist- they work in laboratories with samples, to understand the role that genetics plays in medicine. They also detect the cause of cancer and nervous system disorders. 

  18. Laboratory Scientist- They play an important role in finding out the root causes for diseases and disorders, they work on biological specimens with the help of modern equipment’s. 

  19. Speech Pathologists- they diagnose and treat the speaking, swallowing and communication disorders in children and adults and prescribe treatment for the same. 

  20. Respiratory Therapist- they deal with patients who have issues in breathing or are caught in emergency situations of drowning, shock or cardiac arrest.

  36. Pharmacist Technician- they work and assist a pharmacist in the carrying out daily operations, they perform operating as well managing tasks for the pharmacist. 

  37. Health Services Manager- they work as the administrators and help in planning, controlling and coordinating of different rules and regulations, they devise plans and policies for smooth operations and conduct.

  38. Neurodiagnostic Technician- they help in diagnosing the brain, nervous system and sleeping disorders with the help of high-tech technology and generate reports for analysis purposes. 

  39. Hospital Chaplain- they act as the spiritual, religious and psychological guide at a hospital or a clinic. They help patients recover from any mental trauma that they might be going through. 

  40. Health Information Manager- they maintain the records of patients, starting right from the detection of symptoms to their treatment procedure. They bridge the communication gap between physicians, surgeons and the patients’ family.
